The
high-speed remote access unit (RAD) offers improvements
when it comes to data transmission speed and security.
The
RAD integrates with the Norstar system managing functions
and the local and distant maintenance functions.
The
maintenance and remote programming applications on a personal
computer, like Norstar's remote maintenance utilities, the
Companion diagnostic software (CDS) and Companion manager,
all communicate with the SCI system with the help of the
RAD. It uses its integrated modem to establish a communication
interface between the picked Norstar system and the personal
computer. It can as well allow access to Norstar's exclusive
D channel information for translations, handling of Norstar
managing commands and for the detection and automatic broadcasting
of the SCI alarms.
If
you use the RAD with Norstar's remote maintenance utilities,
you'll notice the following improvements:
- Lower operation costs due to the faster speed of the
transmissions
- Advanced security through the user-defined passwords and
the access restrictions.
- Higher customer satisfaction level as a result of shorter
answering time.
- Improvement of the distributor's image because he's perceived
as a service provider who listens to his customers and who
uses the latest technology.
The high-speed RAD is smaller than the advanced RAD and
is powered by an external supply module. It can be installed
horizontally with the connectors in front or vertically
with the connectors on the right.
The RAD is connected to the operations centre using the
Norstar SCI system and the commuted public telephone network.
The remote communications are set up via a secure data link
at a speed that can reach 14 400 byte/sec. The integral
duplex communications are executed by an internal modem
that conforms to the norms of the V.32/V.32bis protocols.
These protocols can transfer data flows of 14,4k, 96000bytes/sec
and 4800 bytes/sec. The RAD not being equipped with an external
interface of network lines, you have to use an SCI line
to establish a remote connection.
The RAD also allows access through a local terminal. The
local terminal is connected to the RAD by means of a RS-232
working at 300, 1200, 2400, 9600 or 19200 bauds. The conception
and operation of the RAD assumes that only one RAD is connected
to the SCI system.
It is possible to buy an optional activation code to activate
to integrated remote unit (IRU) of the compact SCI system.
